Our Backyard Sanctuary
Greg has been working exceptionally hard to make our backyard into something lush and inviting. We love where we live and we love our modest little 1961 home. Being about a half-mile from the coast though has it’s price. The biggest challenge is that we don’t really have much soil. Most of the ground is littered with crushed limestone and the soil is mostly sandy. Grass is a difficult challange with little shade, and no irrigation system. The Florida sun is brutal, especially with no shady reprieve. His solution, I think, is both beautiful and practical: Planters and pots.
What I really like is his selection of full-sun plants that enjoy the blazing Florida heat:
- Climbing Confederate Jasmine
- Climbing White Mandavilla
- Purple Dracaena Plants
- Candy Stripe Plumeria
- Blue Agave
- Yucca
- Giant Birds of Paradise
- Blooming Desert Rose
- Fiddle-Leaf Plumeria
- Florida Willow
- String of Pearls
- Dragon Peppers
- Mexican Morning Glories
- Foxtail Ferns
- Orchid Tree
- Pineapples
- …and more I don’t know the name of
He’s done a beautiful job and I’m grateful to have this and him.
